The Shepparton Water Services Committee represents irrigation customers in the Shepparton and surrounding region. This includes the towns of Congupna, Tallygaroopna, Invergordon, Katandra West, Bunbartha, Nathalia, Shepparton East, Kialla, Kialla West and Shepparton.
The Shepparton Irrigation Area covers 81,750ha, of which 51,000ha is irrigated. There are 1470 irrigated properties within the region. The area has 754km of irrigation channel and 441km of drainage channels.
The area is diverse in that it has a range of irrigated agriculture, from intense horticulture and dairying areas to annual pasture and permanent pasture areas.
The Shepparton WSC is chaired by Craig Reynolds and consists of seven members in total.
Over the past 12 months, the Shepparton WSC has been focussed on the decrease in milk prices and the impacts for dairy customers in the region, the Essential Services Commission (ESC) decision on GMW’s pricing structure for Water Plan 4 and winter works, including channel remodelling, desilting and weed control.
