In 2013, the Victorian Government announced $1 million for the Water Security for Wangaratta Project and appointed a Project Steering Committee to assess water demand in Wangaratta and consider alternative water options to improve water security in the region.
Goulburn-Murray Water is a technical advisor to the Project Steering Committee.
Phase One of the Water Security for Wangaratta project, which assessed the region's current and future water needs, is complete and the consultants' technical reports are available online.
Phase One identified increasing use of groundwater, expanding Lake Buffalo or using alternative water sources as options to meet the shortfall in the town's future water supply requirements.
Phase Two of the project, which started in April 2014, will investigate the feasibility, including costing estimates, of these three options.
For more information about the project including fact sheets and the consultants' reports, please visit the website: DEPI Water Security for Wangaratta web page.
